The DAC will immediately process the data and give you a clean analog stereo line level output. It's even cool to use with MCLK-less I2S interfaces (like Compatible with Raspberry Pi, which is ideal) - the built-in PLL will generate the appropriate clock from the incoming signal. For input, you can use classic I2S (default) or 16-bit, 20-bit, or 24-bit left-justified data. You can set it to take the incoming system/master clock, but we set it by default to just generate it for you, so you only need to connect the data input, word select (left/right clock), and bit clock lines.
