How to use Method 1 Place the flat side on the rail closest to the handle, with the blade resting on the abrasive. Push the blade away from the abrasive. Repeat this step using the corresponding rail, then turn the blade toward the abrasive and pull it along the abrasive in turns. Perform 5–10 strokes in this sequence. Method 2 Turn the knob so that the fine (smooth) edge is raised on the knob. Place the tool flat on the guide cabinet so that the edge rests on the bar. Push the edge away from the abrasive. Repeat along the abrasive, alternating the edge toward and along the abrasive using the opposite guides. Complete 5 strokes on each side. Method 3 Hold the holder so that the leather blade is facing up and the side of the blade is facing down and away from the leather. Push the back of the blade to face up toward the leather blade. Repeat this step using opposite guides with a pulling action for 10 alternates, being careful with the blade in your hand.
