The original design was a plastic type pulley with a press-in bushing riding on a lubricated metal shaft. Under the constant pressure of the spring and the belt, running this type of configuration in a hot environment will only cause the loss of lubrication, and a lot of heat will be generated between the metal shaft and the spinning bushing that holds the spinning pulley. Soon, the heat builds up to a high level, so that the plastic pulley melts and the metal bushing starts to drag, thereby generating more heat.
